5. The Dog Who Rescues Cats: The True Story of Ginny by Philip Gonzalez and Leonore Fleischer

What?

Yeah, ok, an easy read, and yeah, ok, our esteemed literary friends would take umbrage with the tone of the story, not to mention it’s Oprah-esque “true heartwarming tale” bent, but christ, if you guys can’t find a little joy in a simple tale of love and compassion in the animal world, then you guys can totally go fuck yourselves.

Ginny saved an estimated 900 homeless cats in her lifetime (she died in 2005 at the age of 18) and she was especially drawn to disabled felines (disabled humans too.)

The Ginny Memorial Fund seeks to find homes for homeless cats and kittens on Long Island, provide food, medical care and makeshift shelter for the approximately 300 strays living on the streets of Philip and Ginny’s community, offer advice on trapping/spaying/caring for the strays within your own community, educate the public about the importance of spaying/neutering their pets, and raise funds to continue this mission and fulfill the dream of establishing a sanctuary for unwanted animals.
